Science Accelerating Girls' Engagement in STEM (SAGE) is a one week long summer camp for public high school students (age 14-17) hosted by National Laboratory scientists and engineers to share what life in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professions are like.

This program aims to foster innovation, grow the STEM community, and engage intelligent, creative, and passionate young women in the everyday life of scientists and engineers. Throughout the week, students will participate in job shadowing, hands-on projects, professional development, and more!

In 2024, SAGE at Berkeley Lab will be hosted on-campus from June 10 - June 14. We are looking for Job Shadow Hosts to help with running our camp from the following locations FLEXLAB, ALS, NERSC, and Molecular Foundry. Sign up to become a Job Shadow Host for the week of camp.

Job Shadow Host - Each day of the camp, students will spend time with Job Shadow Hosts learning about their position and career trajectories. The students will get a 45 min general tour of the facility where their host works. Then, the students will be split into small groups and spend 30 min with Job Shadow Hosts for an interactive tour of their work space and show-and-tell demos on what they do in their day-to-day work life. The Job Shadow session will take place from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. Each volunteer will have about 3 to 6 students. 

Time commitment:

1 hour mandatory online training (30 min Mandated Reporter e-course + 30 min Working with Minors e-course)

30 min during the week of camp for Job Shadow session(s).
