Science Accelerating Girls' Engagement in STEM (SAGE) is a one week long summer camp for public high school students (age 14-17) hosted by National Laboratory scientists and engineers to share what life in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professions are like.
This program aims to foster innovation, grow the STEM community, and engage intelligent, creative, and passionate young women in the everyday life of scientists and engineers. Throughout the week, students will participate in job shadowing, hands-on projects, professional development, and more!
In 2024, SAGE at Berkeley Lab will be hosted on campus from June 10 - June 14, with the first night starting June 9. We are looking for SAGE Overnight Chaperones to help with running our overnight activities at camp. Sign up to become a SAGE Overnight Chaperone!
SAGE Overnight Chaperone - Each evening, students will return from a full day of activities in the main Berkeley campus and head to dinner in Stern dorm just at the bottom of the hill. After dinner, Chaperones will help lead evening bonding activities including a movie night, a walk around UCB campus or game night, etc. Chaperones will then stay at the dorms and help with any questions students may have, as well as enforce quiet hours. Chaperones will stay overnight. In the morning, Chaperones will make sure students head to breakfast on time before they return to Berkeley Lab for the next day's events.
WE ARE ASKING FOR A 2 NIGHT MINIMUM STAY. We've learned that having volunteers stay for more than one night helps both the volunteer and students have a better and more comfortable experience.
Time commitment:
1 hour mandatory online training (30 min. Mandated Reporter e-course + 30 minute Working with Minors e-course)
1 or 2 training sessions for Evening activities/ What to expect (Training will be scheduled for April and May)
12 hr/ night - 2 Night minimum (7pm-7am am daily, 6pm dinner if interested)
