Support hands-on STEM activities during Oakland Leaf STEM Nights

Expired

Description

Berkeley Lab is excited to partner with Oakland Leaf, an after school program in East Oakland, to host several STEM nights. The program supports more than 800 young people by keeping them engaged in activities throughout the year. This year, our team will support STEM engagement by hosting several STEM events that will engage elementary (K-5) participants as well as their families in a fun and active setting.

This will be an in-person engagement.

Date/Time: Most programs will be held between 4 and 6pm.

January 17

February 21

March 6

April 10

Location: Oakland Leaf School Sites (Oakland)

Attire: Casual. Please wear Berkeley Lab shirts and make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes. Hats and sun screen are also recommended.

Activities: We will have four stations set up under tents with activities that should support multiple students at a time. These are all observation activities (light diffraction, bubbles, circuits, microscopes) where students are able to primarily use their senses (sight, touch, hearing) to observe phenomena.

Volunteers will be asked to support hands-on STEM activity stations:

  • Exploring circuits with Makey-makey
  • Microscopy
  • Spectroscopy Demo

Our colleagues from several partner organizations will also join.
