Seeking high school coding bootcamp TAs

Expired

Description

The Experiences in Research program is a 6-week internship for high school students to work on cutting edge projects alongside experts at Berkeley Lab. Projects will be focused around different aspects of STEM professions including administration, science communication, coding, data science, and experimental research. The program is virtual for 2022.

We will be providing a virtual coding bootcamp for interns who will be using python or R in their internship projects so they have the coding skill sets needed to successfully complete their projects. We are looking for TAs for this bootcamp to work with students in small groups as they complete coding exercises. TAs will be given the exercises beforehand for review, and will also be asked to be part of a prep meeting prior to the bootcamp to go over logistics.

The bootcamp is scheduled to occur from 10am - 2:30pm on Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th. TAs can choose to attend one or both sessions, and can choose to attend in the morning (10am - 12pm) and/or the afternoon (12:30pm - 2:30pm).

All volunteers participating in K-12 programs must complete an online working with minors course (~90 minutes), sign and submit a CANRA form, and pass a background check.

For any questions please contact K-12 Content and Instruction Coordinator, Alisa Bettale (abettale@lbl.gov).
