High School STEM Days are a once-a-month event for local public high school students to visit the Lab. This event will be a chance for students and school representatives to have an opportunity to tour Berkeley Lab, network with Lab employees, and participate in job shadowing. The main goal of this event is to share what life in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and STEM-adjacent professions are like and learn more about summer programs and high school internships for students at Berkeley Lab.
We are seeking volunteers from WSEC and other ERG members from all divisions for the March 12 HS STEM Day.
Career Panel: This is a 45-50 minute commitment. Volunteers can sign up for multiple slots.
Volunteers will meet with ~25 high school students at a time to discuss their current role at the lab, their career journey, and answer any questions the students might have. For this session we are looking for in-person volunteers. There is no need to prepare slides, or any material: just yourself and your life experience!
Sample questions will be emailed in advance. A K-12 staff person will moderate the panel and help steer questions from the students.
TIME COMMITMENT BREAKDOWN:
~5 minutes: Volunteers get situated
~20 minutes: Panelist Introductions (What you do at the Lab, your background, fun facts, etc)
~15 minutes:Q&A
~5 minutes: Transition
Attire: Please wear your Berkeley Lab shirt, favorite STEM paraphernalia and/or anything that relates to your career. This is an informal day.
