Science Accelerating Girls' Engagement in STEM (SAGE) is a one week long summer camp for public high school students (age 14-17) hosted by National Laboratory scientists and engineers to share what life in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professions are like.
This program aims to foster innovation, grow the STEM community, and engage intelligent, creative, and passionate young women in the everyday life of scientists and engineers. Throughout the week, students will participate in job shadowing, hands-on projects, professional development, and more!
In 2024, SAGE at Berkeley Lab will be hosted in the hill site from June 10 - June 14. We are looking for SAGE Guides to help with running our camp. Sign up to become a SAGE Guide the week of camp.
SAGE Guide - Each morning, students will do an icebreaker. Afterwards, they will learn skills necessary to enter and stay in STEM fields, as well as practice using tools that help develop confidence and effective communication. There will be 5 Professional Development lessons. SAGE Guides will be responsible for a group of ~6 students throughout the entire week of camp and help facilitate each lesson. Professional development topics include; Welcoming the Idea of Others, Self-awareness, Opportunities for Success and Failure, Growth Mindset, and Leadership and Forming Habits.
Time commitment:
1 hour mandatory online training (30 min. Mandated Reporter e-course + 30 minute Working with Minors e-course)
1 or 2 training sessions for Prof. Dev. lessons (Training will be scheduled for April and May)
1.5 hours Monday-Friday, June 10-14, 2024 (9am-10:30 am daily)
