Each year the Berkeley Lab Government and Community Relations Office selects a community partner to give its annual "Community Partnership" donation. The effort supports the work of community organizations that share Berkeley Lab’s values including education and youth development.
The 2022 donation went to the Oakland Public Education Fund which will allow Berkeley Lab to be a lead supporter of McClymonds High School for the FY23 school year.
To kick-off the year-long partnership, a wide-range of Berkeley Lab staff visited McClymonds earlier this month to take part in a STEM career days. Berkeley Lab employees including scientists, engineers, administrators, and information technologists took part in a career panel discussion with McClymonds students.
The career panels were well received and students and teachers requested an on-site visit. The visit will have about 20 students and chaperones.
We are seeking volunteers in all lab positions. STEM and STEM adjacent careers are welcome. Previous job shadow volunteers are highly encouraged to sign up.
Job Shadowing: The tour/shadowing will be about 1 hour, including transits to and from Building 33- 106CR. During this time, you can talk about your pathway, your day-to-day job, and interactions with colleagues. Each volunteer will have about 4 to 5 students. We will need approximately 5-10 volunteers for the 2 job shadow sessions during the day. Each volunteer can choose to volunteer for either one or both of the job shadow sessions during the day.
